Apple’s MobileMe, its replacement for its .Mac cloud computing service, is having birthing pains, as this article by Carol Pinchefsky states. “Users are still having problems with the MobileMe service, five days after its launch. …The problems are particularly vexing because, in principle, MobileMe is a very good idea whose time has come.” You can read more along with my pungent quotes. And in a follow up piece, Carol also quotes me in talking about how Apple is giving 30 days of free service to try to make amends.
david – the one thing i can’t figure out from all the mobileme stuff is whether it will fix my exchange calendar/contacts problem. i want something that will sync with the corporate exchange server, but keep the passwords on my mac, not in the cloud.
can you shed any light on this?
You first have to download your contacts/calendar to the local drive, and then synch up with the cloud. But if you have a lot of contacts, it probably won’t work — at least, it didn’t with me and I was using the Mac native apps and not even trying to run the Windows software. I would give this a few months to settle down, they are obviously having a lot of growing pains.
