Marie Curie and the French Academy of Sciences

All this historic talk this week about the events in DC has been interesting, but perhaps a moment to reflect on other historical trailblazers might be in order. This time back in 1911, the French Academy of Sciences turned down the application for Marie Curie to join the academy, this after wining one Nobel and on her way towards a second. The reason? Blatant sexism. “Women cannot be part of the Institute of France” was how one troll put it.

As the French say, plus ce change, plus ce le meme chose. Or something like that.
