A rogue employee can easily carry a lot of private data out of your offices using a USB drive. While gluing your USB ports shut (like my local library did) is one way to prevent data loss via a portable drive, a less drastic — but just as efficient — option is a security or desktop management product.
I look at how five different products can disable USB devices in a story this week for TechTarget here.
I’ve never used the following product, but I like the logging feature. http://www.usbcopynotify.com/
I don’t have a problem with people using USB devices, I just have a problem with what they copy to it. With this software, at least you now have an audit record to provide to law enforcement. lol
GFI also has a great product that does USB lockdown and also makes the Exec’s happy since you can do exclusions. Bill
